What driver skills really are and how to master them.

Curriculum and Skills – Improving driver skill is a vague concept unless you can identify individual skills and then define what proficiency in that skill looks like. Several years ago, the Boston chapter developed a program called Skill Level Improvement Program (SLIP) where we identified fourteen skills with an attainment level for each. Our Instructors use this as a basis to evaluate drivers and focus on areas for improvement. This system even becomes part of the drivers ‘log book’ and we can use it for defining run groups in a given event. This system and variations of it are used by BMW, PCA, Audi and certain other groups as a baseline. SLIP is a definitive system to take a driver from instruction to coaching.
