I am hearing a series of 3 beeps coming from under the left side of the dash at random times while driving.  I have a 97 E36 M3. Any ideas?

The chime module for the "open door while key is in the ignition" is located on the left under dash panel. On some cars w/ a more sophisticated On Board computer, it may also chime when the outside temp drops below 34 degrees. Is this the noise you hear?

No I don't think so. The beeps only occur while I am driving. They sound different than the open door chime. Almost like a computer mike make. 3 in a row and then nothing for a day or two. Never beeps more than 3 and never more than one series of 3. I've only ever noticed while driving and it occurs different times into a drive.

It's hard to say w/out hearing the noise myself. It could be a relay buzzing. I'd maybe remove the lower dash panel to hear it better. Familiarize yourself w/ what's under there, listen for the noise to zero in on the component.

Good Luck!

It only occurs while driving. I don't think you are suggesting sticking my head under the dash while driving are you?????

No, don't do that, just have your girlfriend do that for you while you drive.
