So it appears BMW run flats are falling flat. Road noise, vibrations etc.. Replacement needed within 10-20,000 miles... BMW is not saying much about this to date and certainly they have not notified owners of the problem they have. I cannot imagine that the ultimate driving machine is enhanced with all weather run flat tires.... Perhaps they shoudl rethink and return to real performance tires that last a bit longer, are cheaper and quieter....

the ultimate driving machine may not be enhanced by run flats, but the ultimate trunk space is.

I've only driven on them a couple of times, when I had an e90 as a loaner during service for my e39.

I hated the ride, though I liked the car. I found them to be really noisy, lousy feel on the road. When I'd get my e39 back, it certainly didn't toss through the corners like a 3, but was smooth as glass on the regular Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. If I was to ever get a BMW without a full spare, I'd be running non-run flat tires and just carry a simple plug kit and small electric pump. I think the "old fashioned" regular tires are cheaper, wear longer, run quieter and smoother.

I moved this thread to the "car related" forum because I didn't see an actual question for our on-line professional mechanic, Mike Morris. - Mr. Mod.
