I'm thinking of attending the next event, do I need anything in specific, like a helmet, special tires, etc?
I've never driven over ice before so... how safe is driving on the ice? =/
Any extra information or sharing of experiences is appreciated.
Thanks.

No helmet required and there are classes for all types of tires. Bring warm clothing and maybe some sort cleats for your shoes for walking on the ice. It's a low-key event with instructors available to help your ice driving technique.
Lowering the air pressure in non-studded street tires seems to help on the ice so a lot of people bring a small compressor to pump them up after the event.

| Okay, thanks. I plan to come for the session on Sunday, and yeah I'd really appreciate some instruction since it's going to be my first time. Thanks for the info.

Anybody have some pictures from this weekend?
Also, Limodriver. Er. If they disallow bolts... sorry?

Hey guys,
First post for me. Not even a member to BMW CCA but I plan on joining once i figure out how to. I'll be coming up for this weekends event. I've done autocross and drivers ed with another club before, but is there anything I should know before heading up on sunday? I'm excited to get my car seriously sideways for the first time!

Anyone interested in co-driving the Caddy? We plan to be there Sunday and am willing to share the fun of driving the beast.

Thanks,

Do you have any other footage of my car (the impreza with bolts)? I'm interested to see it if you do, just for my own education

| sniper1rfa, Sorry that's all I have. Paul, Yup, AMEC and Boston BMW are different that the type of music that's appropriate for the video is different between the two. - Bernard

Great event today! A little windy, but not too cold. Hopefully the conditions will hold up and we can be back in two weeks.

Big thanks to Dave for letting me a and Alex drive the superlimo. The most excitement I've had for the last year or two.
Another great event, very well organized. Thanks to everyone for good behavior.

Boston Chapter Ice Racing Bulletin for February 22, 2010
Sponsored by Bavarian Autosport
We will NOT be Ice Racing on Sunday, February 28th! There is a fishing derby being held on the lake, and since we have managed to run three events in a row, we won't try to accommodate the complication of hundreds of fishermen this weekend. Stay tuned for information on the next Ice Race! And yes, the Parker Spooner Memorial Ice Race was a big fun success yesterday! ------------------------------ Please remember that Pre-Registration is REQUIRED! If you read the Rules on the website, you can see that you need to Pre-Register ONCE for the SEASON for EACH driver-vehicle-tire combination. If ANY of those three items will be different at the next event you attend, you MUST either Pre-Register again, or in certain circumstances you may e-mail me. Please, PLEASE read all the Rules on the website! Almost every question can be answered there. Thanks for your cooperation, and keep your fingers crossed for some cold weather later this week! See you on the ice! Stan Jackson Jr. Boston Chapter BMW CCA Ice Racing Coordinator

Hi all.
By the way, that video was great. Too bad I was over-driving my car (blue E28) at the time. But thanks for this!
I will do my best to coax and cajole the powers that be to release the highly secretive racing results to the general population. If that doesn't work, I'll use threats.
If anyone has some great ice racing photos from this season, please contact me at once since I am looking for a cover shot for my chapter's newsletter...
Have a great summer,
.steve.
