I have a lot of intrest in buying a private sale on a 2002 525ia 70000 miles well maintained but no records. I need a car that will last a few years driving 500 miles a week. What should I look for  ( Good or bad ) any input would be helpful

I'd bring it to a reputable independent BMW specialist shop. There have been several threads recommending shops in various areas around Boston. An experienced shop will know the common things to look for, as well as the usual inspection items.

I've got a 2002 530iA that I had picked up as Certified Pre-Owned with 72,500 miles on it. It now has 125,000, and in that time I've had to replace the cyclonic separator system (BMW's glorified version of a PCV valve, done under the CPO warranty), the fan clutch, the thermostat (and its plastic housing), front thrust arm bushings, the alternator, and brake rotors.

Other things in that time such as air filter, spark plugs, cabin air filters and oil changes were all routine maintenance items. Overall, the pleasure of driving this fine car has FAR outweighed the few things that have had to be fixed.
